A story 165 years in the making.
With over 165 years of agricultural heritage, Lemon Creek stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Lemon Family. Their journey began in 1834 when they settled in Berrien County, Michigan, and laid down roots that would flourish into the present-day Lemon Creek Fruit Farm. Situated along Lemon Creek Road, the farm traces its origins to 1855 when Benjamin Lemon's sawmill lent its name to the creek, eventually christening the adjacent dirt road.
Nestled amidst the picturesque clay loam hills and benefiting from the tempering influence of Lake Michigan, Lemon Creek Fruit Farm has become synonymous with premium grape cultivation in the Midwest. A pioneer in the wine grape industry, Helen and Robert Lemon and their sons, embarked on a new chapter in 1984 with the establishment of Lemon Creek Winery. Their bold vision led to the inaugural commercial planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in Michigan, setting a benchmark for quality and innovation. Over the years, the winery has garnered acclaim, boasting an impressive collection of national and international gold medals. Among Lemon Creek Winery's recent accolades are gold medal wins for their Gewürztraminer and Carmenere, recognized by institutions such as the San Francisco Chronicle. These victories underscore Lemon Creek's commitment to excellence across a diverse range of varietals, showcasing their depth in viticulture and winemaking.
Today, the Lemon family stewards approximately 170 acres of wine grapes and tends to around 60 acres of diverse fruits. During the summer season, visitors can delight in both pre-picked and U-Pick fruit options, immersing themselves in the essence of farm-fresh goodness, continuing to redefine the boundaries of excellence in both agriculture and viticulture.
